Head of Steam Rob Roy

Went to a model railway exhibition at the 'Head Of Steam' at Darlington today, and there, in a glass case, is a little 3 1/2 inch gauge Rob Roy, donated I think by the family of some deceased old boy. Never having been up close to a small locomotive such as this, I came away with even more of a desire to construct one. Having spent the last few years building vintage model aircraft from balsa, which to be honest are very ephemeral, this thing was a big hunk of very physical metal, and I can see where all the hours of painstaking work go.

My hat is off to anyone who manages to complete even one of these, and I know of people who have done several.

Is the “Head of Steam” the Museum at the old North Road Station?

Yes it is v8eng, It'll be the open weekend at the pumping station darlington soon, a few of us take our engines on the saturday it's a fantastic place [victorian engineering at its finest.] might see you there if you go RevStew.

A very interesting small Museum I went there about three years ago but did not recognise it by that name.

I used to have family links to the area and one of my ancestors worked as a Fitter at the North Road Works. I still get up that way from time to to time, unfortunately the family links have gone now and my visits become rarer (a consequence of ageing).
