I would like to think I could make a tidier job but who knows it may be a good boiler

The lack of any visible stays, the big overhang of the flange at the backhead, no bushes to get water in or steam out, no steam dome provision, are all pretty big concerns. Soldering is not neat either. Who knows what the builder had in mind. It might be possible to operate some small toys with this thing at very low pressure ie under 10 psi, but I don't think it is suitable for a locomotive or traction engine at all. Some useful copper if you wanted to cut it apart to make such a loco or TE boiler……probably much further ahead to start fresh.

No end of ways on the electric yard sale to separate people from shekels.

Well made, perhaps made in a well with no light; like the comment that water has been poured in and none leaked out. I can get the same result with a plastic tube and some duct tape. I do hope that some unsuspecting person doesn't decide buy it.

Just had another look and I can't see a hole where water could have been 'poured' in. Perhaps I have missed it though it might have been down one of the boiler tubes cheeky. Missed it there is a hole above the tubes on the "smoke box end".blush

Foundation ring looks like it may be sifbronze but you can see bits of unmelted silver solder rod on the front tube plate

I wonder if it was a ' boiler first' or 'chassis first ' builder ?

That hacked fire hole looks familiar I think it's been on before without the shiny finish.

Can't beat this one though link on sale for at least a year, the wording gets angrier as time drags oh so slowly on.

"Well made" has to be taken in context.

Muddy water is good: IF you have just crawled across a desert, without any, for three days!

The only accessory that I would want with it, not being a steam man, would be a long barge pole!

Without wishing to be cruel to whoever made it, I 'm sure we do have some sympathy at least, for the attempt.

The real point at which the smiling stops, is that 'someone' is trying to sell it, as a boiler.

We all know how dangerous it becomes with that title attached to it.

Question is, does the buyer know ?

Please forgive me for knowing almost nothing about boilers, but as the firebox appears to be just a cavity with no water in it, where would the stays go?

Stays go between the flat inner firebox and the flat outer wrapper to stop the water space between distorting.

That's what I thought, but the advertised one is just a tube with ends and fire tubes running through it, I cannot see that if it was double skinned, that there would be more than 1/8" gap between the plates. I had assumed that it was solid.
