Dividing

I have a daily email from workshoptools.net. This often shows off things people have made, some useful ideas, some shall we say not very interesting.My point is an interesting little tool utilising a 'leadscrew of 20tpi and a control knob with 50 divs., = 1000, it says in the blurb. His pictures show a knob with numbered divs, 0/5/10 etc, up to 45. So far, so good. There are 3 further un – numbered divs between each of the numbered ones.

I don't get it; how convenient is 5 divided by 3?

Or am I missing something?

Whoops! Previous post, I said workshoptools.net, but I meant Homemadetools.net. Sorry, it's getting near bedtime, or at least that's the only excuse that I can think of.

but couldn't find the article in question.

My first thought, however, is that a further three division lines [which appears to be what you are describing] would divide the 5 by 4, not by 3.

Also [of, course] the major divisions are numbered to 45 … but the dial 'goes to 50' because 50 is at 0
