crank shaft

I could do with a bit of advice . I am building a simple crankshaft , at the moment it is a press fit together and in perfect alignment . I understand that silver solder wont penetrate through a tight fit , but I an reluctant to ease the pin and the shaft and maybe lose the alignment , What is others experience of Loctite and pinning ?

your right , I didn't read all that post as I thought it only related to the out of line problem . Loctite and pin then !

If the Loctite is used correctly, you really don't need to pin it as well. It is very difficult to break a joint once it has cured. It takes far more force to move, even with heating, than the shaft will ever undergo when your engine is running.

I think so, too – though presumably it depends on the forces.

I'd been thinking I'd pinned the crankshaft on the Stuart 10V I made about 20 years ago, but inspecting the crank now I can't see any sign of pinning, so I probably did just use red Loctite – and it still works well.

Anyone used Truloc 268 ( equivalent to Loctite 638 ) and have any thoughts about it, I'm about to use Truloc on my loco for wheels to axles

Hi Mick,

I have used Truloc from ARC to make a multi-throw crankshaft, as far as I can tell it is as good as Loctite.
