Im after a few bits which I have found on Cousins UK website, but I'm just wondering if anyone has ordered from them as they seem to be trade to trade? I don't want to make an order if it's likely going to get cancelled.

Not their best customer by far but I have occasionally ordered from them and find them to be very helpful and efficient — no connection other than a customer

Yes, I've used Cousins fairly often over the years.

Good service, good quality and reasonable prices. There are lots of small items that are very useful for the modeller that are often hard to find elsewhere. They will sell you anything in their catalogue but of course the better prices are when you buy in volume (which I normally don't) and you also pay a small postage charge. If there is something inexpensive I need (£2-£3), I will also tend to have a look for other things that might be useful or where my stock is getting low.

Rather like allowing my wife in the Supermarket (than just using Click & Collect) this does cost a bit more but not excessively so (and normally much less than my wife's impulse buys)

              Regards,

              IanT

Thanks guys, seems like I've nothing to worry about. 🙂

Roy – I'll check out walshes too before I make an order. Thanks.

I order bits and pieces intermittently and they are quick, reasonable and helpful. I suspect the trade to trade position (they ask you to confirm that the goods are for your trade or something similar at checkout) is simply a mechanism for avoiding the distance selling regulations – 14 day no quibble return window etc. – as I don't think they apply to business to business transactions.

All I can say about Cousins is caveat emptor.

That particular example of their customer service isn't the only negative one I know of among jewellery makers and watch repairers.

It is, and it has caused a lot of people a lot of grief.

Never had any problems with Walsh's customer service, either by post or in person, and the shop on Hatton Garden is full of beautiful things, high quality and suitably expensive. No experience with Cousin's.

Have you ever had to return anything to them or been sent the wrong item?

                            Well it's a Catch 22 then Bill

The answer is that I've never had to send anything back to them and they've always sent what I've ordered. So I guess that leaves some room for doubt because I've never had to return anything?

As you may have gathered though, most of my purchases have been small ticket items, mostly consumables etc.

You may need to just take a leap of faith

                            Regards,

I Have ordered regularly from Cousins. They always deliver promptly and only once when a rolling mill I had ordered had a faulty roll which had been unfinished by the manufacturer was delivered. They allowed me to get it finnished turned and paid the bill from the company round the corner to 're machine the roll and returned money back to me the same day.

I used Walsh’s some years ago and regularly use Drill Services (Horley). Although these firms appear to sell only to industry they are more than happy to deal with the hobby trade. The things to remember are not to mess them around and make the size of your order sensible (I would say at least twice the size of their minimum order). By law you are an equal customer to industry so, at least, the sales of goods acts apply.

Some, particularly Drill Services (of whom I am a fan), offer a near reliable next day service (only Tracy Tools offer an absolute next day service, so I read).

I have ordered from Cousins abrasives discs, files and an Optivisor on separate occasions. It has all arrived promptly and I had no problems with them at all. But I have never had to return anything yet.
