We are also very fortunate that we have good folk who are still working to keep us supplied and safe. I went out and thanked our Dustmen yesterday (from a distance) which seemed to both surprise and please them. Shop workers also deserve medals too.

Good point! Went out to put a thank you note on our bi, but it had already been emptied.

No valid DoT and the car is on the road ?

What do the insurance people have to say about that ?

'Goverment are working with insurers to ensure people will be covered'

Assuming the rules are followed, surely it will have an MOT as the government are extending your current one by 6 months.
You won't have a paper copy, but it will show on the on-line MOT checker as everything catches up.

Spare a thought for the elderly who cannot self-isolate because of their extensive care needs and cannot shop for themselves either online or in person. Spare a thought also for their relatives who are unable to persuade the supermarkets to let them buy rationed commodities such as toilet rolls on their parents' behalf even though their parents are incapable of doing so themselves and their condition means their toilet roll usage is much higher than it is for the average person.

Typical! Dropped my car off for its MOT test at 9:15, saw the announcement at 12:00.

It passed though, and has been given a good wipe down with antiseptic in all its important little places – don't know if it helps, but it makes me feel better.

              Take it DoT is MOT

The goverment have said they are extending MOT certs by 6 months from the 30th March therefore MOT's will be valid no issues with insurance but have reminded people that that should not be driving a dangerous vehicle

It seems a lot of regulations are being relaxed, my grand daughter flies with BA as cabin crew and she is due her annual recertification in two weeks time but has been cancelled because CAA have said certifications will extend from 12 to 18/months because of the crisis, So we can expect extensions on various requirements, bet they don’t extend road tax though.

I doubt it – we had the rates demand yesterday and it looks like I'm paying a chunk of the national debt with mine!

My 6 year old Suzuki passed today with flying colours!, the garage was just doing pre booked MOT's and is closing down on Friday.

The family company closes down on Friday, the employed staff finished on Monday, and my two sons running it finish on Friday, we have been asked to make spit guards, but cannot obtain the materials. The company has survived 2 world wars and several recessions, but not sure we can survive a pre-longed stoppage.

                            Hi all

I am a dog owner and I have been taking the dog out each day, as allowed, for exercise.

An acquaintance says she has read on Facebook that dogs and cats can carry the virus on their coats, and that as they interact with each other they can pass the virus on from one animal to another, and hence from one household to another. Anyone else heard this? I am aware we have at least one vet on the forum, anything in this do you think?

Facebook is hardly an authoritive source and the language of the item "virus can cling to" seems very unscientific, but perhaps?

Perhaps so, but it will be difficult to explain to a dog, and who knows what cats get up to when they are out?

I did hear of a cat owner who wondered what her cat got up to and put a note on its collar asking any human it interacted with to get in touch with her. She discovered it was being fed by about 6 families in her neibourhood. Might be an interesting exercise for all cat owners to try?

There is no evidence of the virus being able to replicate in animals. google translated

Any risk will be similar to that of brushing or touching an object brushed or touched by any other carrier i.e not impossible but pretty unlikely and even more dilute when a brushed object brushes anothet object…

I would say that was perfectly feasable, virus particle can stay intact ouside the body for some time on many surfaces including animals. They are at body heat and somewhat moist. Thats why the hand washing is so important. If you can I would say you need to keep your animals close where you can. It becomes more important if you are shielding because you are at specific risk like my wife. I now open the post and shake the contents free. Bin the envelopes and then wash my hands. It may be thatt the risk is low but the practice is cheap and uncomplicated. I'm working on the principle that the wrappings will have been recently handled but the inners handled further back in time. Everyone strokes animals so you have a valid potential vector with a permiscuous pet.

Weigh the risk and do as you see fit. It won't do any harm. Wash your hand and don't touch your face.

                                    regards Martin

Our local surgery (one of three in the practice) was under threat of closure because it got a poor rating from the CQC and it needed investment. The partners have now 'temporarily' closed it saying that it was becoming increasingly difficult to deliver all their services. Their original closure proposal claimed that two instead of three locations would be better for all patients. It was near impossible to get a doctors appointment before the current situation arose, so here too it looks like 111 or 999 is all we have.

I feel like I'm getting paranoid about all this. My wife has just finished chemotherapy and I suffer asthma. We have totally isolated for just over a week now and are treating anything new into 'our bubble' as a threat. All non urgent things get put into a room we don't use, with disposable gloves and left for 4 days all urgent is opened with gloves and dealt with, and food containers treated with a disinfectant wipe. Am I being paranoid?

I don't think you are being paranoid Limpet for doing what you can. You seem to have thought about things, understood how virus particle can be transmitted, used the stuff you have available and made a plan. Knowing that you have done what you can to make yourself as safe as you can should bring some comfort to you.

My wife is diabetic and has partial kidney failure so we are doing all we can too. Everything else we cannot change.

No paranoia as far as I'm concerned, just good sense. I would suggest that food containers that can be frozen and then cooked from that state are not likely to be a problem if you use a microwave or oven to reheat. If you are worried about essential mail you could also microwave for a FEW seconds or open outdoors or spray with a soap solution before opening.

I have cardiac problems/copd/diverticulosis/costochondritis/ possibly rhabdomyolysis or similar and an as yet undiagnosed tremor .

Needless to say my appointments are cancelled.

Did manage to shop for food/drink today so we can eat and drink!

All of us need to take care and use family to help at a distance. I f you have a thermometer use it daily on each other, spend time with each other or garden /workshop.

Multiple sources are reporting 21 million mobile phone users in China have 'disappeared' over the past couple of months, could it be that naughty citizens have been scoring low on their social credit points by talking about new virus cases online, and being made to sit on the CCP naughty step with no phone?

                                                      Or Western imperialist propaganda?

Does anyone believe anything coming out of China at this point?
