My wife had me up at 6am this morning. All because I said last night that it was probably better to go veg and milk shopping sooner rather than later, as the chance of catching it increases every day.

Don't quite understand why we needed 2 1/2 hrs to get ready.

At least I now have the whole day for the workshop. I am going to start making my very first steam engine today. Just a wobbler, but t is a start.

        Stay safe stay well. regards

When I treated chronic ear problems we irrigated with simple sterile saline – usually under g/a if you wished to keep some fingers – and it was quite rewarding in some of the bad cases to get a snail shaped plug of stuff flushed from deep in the middle ear….

I suspect nothing is more satisfying for a doctor than removing some unpleasant from a patient!

I've had two ops, one was a sebaceous cyst on my collar line under a local, after much tugging and poking the doc was really pleased to pull out a perfect quail's egg.

The other was a granuloma at front centre of my upper jaw, which had grown somewhat since being diagnosed (about 6-8 months wait). I knew it was unpleasant as I could feel the hole went right through the jaw and ocassionally it woudl 'weep' (ugh!) In this case the surgeon was delighted to tell me it was the most disgusting operation she had ever perfomed…

being stuck (for reasons beyond my control) I'm sitting it out in the UK – being in the Wrinkly's group I made it round the very local Waitrose at 8.15 whilst shelves were being restocked (they were 99% empty on Sunday) so food not a problem at present – my small garden neglected as being scared of restarting back trouble is surrounded by neighbours 6ft fences seems to have attracted the local urban fox as its preferred convenience – any suggestion as to how to discourage it as the local council says they don't 'do' foxes

You can buy various repellents from a garden centre…

Apropos of which, when I worked for the Wildlife Trust DEFRA got in touch to tell us recommending people to stuff rags soaked in Jeyes fluid in gaps in the fence was a no-no as it isn't approved as a pesticide (deterrents count as pesticides).

            So I

Here we go, there could be a role here for model engineers after all, if you have a 3D printer.

              LINK

"Snorkelling masks are being used to make ventilators for hospitals in the epicentre of Europe’s coronavirus outbreak.

Italian engineers came up with the idea to 3D print respiratory valves, a crucial part of the makeshift mask that connects it to an oxygen tube.

The start-up business behind the masks, Isinnova, got involved after founder Cristian Fracassi, heard about the valve shortage by word of mouth in Italy’s Lombardy region, the worst hit of the virus outbreak.

“We were told the hospital was desperately looking for more valves,” Mr Fracassi told the Daily Mail.

“They're called Venturi valves and are impossible to find at the moment, production can't keep up with demand.”

The company plans to make 100 of the valves a day to hand out to doctors trying to get the crisis under control.

Ventilators are used by coronavirus patients suffering from respiratory complications — the most severe symptoms of the infection — and many hospitals are facing shortages of them."

When we heard about the shortage, we got in touch with the hospital immediately,” Mr Fracassi told the Mail.

We printed some prototypes, the hospital tested them and told us they worked. So we printed 100 valves and I delivered them personally.”

"At least 10 patients were using equipment containing the valves by the evening.

Mr Fracassi said it didn’t cost much to make the valves, which are made of plastic."

Neil – will dig out my Jeyes but there are no holes I can see in the two fences – the back wall is brick but with a neighbour’s lattice on top + quite a thick growth of vegetation – how small a gap can a fox get thru as there might be a inch or two between the fence posts and the wall – I caught sight of it once – small dog size and certainly looking somewhat mangy – as a non-meat eater the only waste is veggie and goes into the compost bin so nothing to attract it other possibly some cover among the bushes against the brick wall

I suppose it depends on each person's view of what's disgusting. I shan't upset readers here with a list of horrid things I dealt with. My own 2 hatreds were amputations and maggots and I did finally meet the ultimate combo of maggoty limb needing removal. I'm proud to say that while it was the only ocassion I asked for a bowl on standby for me I didn't have to use it. For most of my nurses their worst thing was helping with eye removals.

Foxes are omnivorous, they can scale any fence and are expert climbers.

Deterrents are Lion poo or other defences are a big dog which will soon leave a scent to stop Mr. Fox.Cats are no use at all.I have no qualm about disposing of Foxes as they wiped out our Chickens, Ducks and Geese. Also ripped open a wooden ark with rabbits in it. They even try to bite the bee hives leaving little teeth marks on the soft Cedar wood. I often see them hanging around the bees. In the orchard as soon as one family is erradicated another will move in and it all starts again. There are ways of baiting them and trapping them but beware, if you are bitten you will have an awful infection, and from mange that they are generally infested with. Nothing iis safe, even hibernating Tortoise are taken and I occasionally find the chewed out tortoise carapace.

From the CCTV at 04:00 a couple of days ago. Don't know what it's after but the holes are a good 150mm deep.

Anyone wanting more cheerful tales of disgust (warning! Adult content!) should read 'This is Going to Hurt' by Adam Kay, but be warned you might be quite upset by the end given what the doctors, nurses and staff of the NHS are doing for us all at the moment.

Local police are forcing our high street shops to shut as no one is taking any notice of the measures announced last night.

We are really pretty lax and deserve to get a real spanking from this disease, but then everyone will bleat they didnt know how bad it was. Italy Spain France, all taking it seriously, us, it's just an early bank holiday.

Loads of folk out walking, kids playing in large groups, and this is only day one.

                                  Soldiers next, mark my words.

Would be a good idea if MOT was suspended, temporarily, and you just insure your vehicle.

be wary, depending on what caused it to fail the mot, it could be deemed not roadworthy, and you know about it, so any insurance could be invalid. Of course if it's failed on emissions you could be OK

MOTs suspended for 30 March… mine runs out on 28th.

I've held off waiting for advice but having checked tyres & lights and I know brakes and steering are OK, so confident it's roadworthy. Only thing I know it needs are some suspension bushes pressing in.

.GOV website says that I still need to have it tested – against other advice saying don't go out.

Luckily my friendly garage are still operating (half days only) 'as per government advice'

So I have to drop it off for four hours on Monday but if I cycle back and forth I can avoid contact (I hope).

Went to our local Tesco this morning – not too busy and key things (Milk, Eggs, Bread and Wine – oh and crucially Toilet Roll) were all back on the shelves – although there were clearly some large gaps on other shelves. We'd previously tried the "on-line" service but there are no slots at all for the next three weeks – so were very relieved to find things available in-store.

Suspect the store has been focusing on getting key items in and that they have also reduced the product choice too. Anyway – we went out feeling very anxious but got home (back down our personal rabbit hole) a lot happier as we can again make tea, enjoy a boiled egg & toast for breakfast – and even have the odd glass or two out in the garden when the sun shines.

Our Grandchildren are playing out in their (parents) garden and we get to FaceTime them fairly regularly. Their Mum seems to be managing quite well at the moment but thank goodness she has the garden – if they were flat dwellers it would be extremely difficult.

We are also very fortunate that we have good folk who are still working to keep us supplied and safe. I went out and thanked our Dustmen yesterday (from a distance) which seemed to both surprise and please them. Shop workers also deserve medals too. Anyway – hopefully we have returned home unscathed and can hunker down for while again. Take care everyone.

                                              Regards,
