Cheap work light……

Trailing behind my good lady in IKEA today I spotted one of these black snake stemmed worklights:

I positioned it over the lathe, switched on and was amazed at how bright it illuminated the job. Even with two 48 LED arrays shining down (from beneath the shelf) this photo of the chucked job looks dark:

This is a photo of the job with the new light switched on:

 

It's called JANSJO (should be an umlat over the last "O" but life's to short to find out how to do it on this site). With its DC adaptor this LED worklight will cost you a tenner. Recommended!

PS – George mechman – the job in the chuck is a part finished friction ring of your design for the top slide on my WM250V-F. Its finished and fitted now and works a treat. Thanks for the tip.

Bought some a while ago and I agree with you that for the money they are very good. I got the ones with the clamp and slightly shorter stem and use them on the lathe and mill where they supplement the existing lighting. Having a narrow stem and small head they can be brought very close to the work when required. I was going to raise a thread on them but didn't when after some digging I found that they had been talked about before.

Mind its a good idea to revisit these things as certainly new members are likely to have missed the heads up now the previous thread has passed into the dungeons of this site and may not see light again!!

Have one of these myself but of the clamp type & have it fitted on the shelf behind my WM16 mill, super lighting.

The top slide friction ring certainly improves access & grip don't it; I notice also you have made a bed saddle stop as per my design (modified?), certainly works nice doesn't it, I have since modified mine to under clamping, from your pic it seems as you have done the same. Nice to have ideas & tips passed on, utilised & appreciated.

I notice you have a coolant supply fitted, how are you powering the flow, gravity, aquarium pump, car window washer pump …? appreciate description.

Have not lurked on here for megga hours so had no idea this lamp had been reviewed so thoroughly. Hello again George, yes you are right again – I have pinched your idea for the carriage stop – thanks. My coolant system is one of the WARCO pumped systems using their NEATCUT cutting oil. Because my shed is just an uninsulated shed all my kit is at risk of rust but using cutting oil means that everything is coated in it. OK, it's not an ideal solution rust wise but with a fresh pair of BODYGUARD rubber gloves each day I can live with it and my tooling stays rust free.
