      Hi Guys,

Now that I have digested the help that I was recently, so kindly given about cutting a 1 mm thread on my S7 lathe. It seems that non of the usual suspects have any stock of the 33 and 34 tooth change gears.

So my question is does anybody want to either loan, sell or point me in the right direction ?

      Thanks all.

Thanks, I have dropped them an Email. Probably wont hear anything now until Tuesday.

Annoyingly I have the set of change wheels that came with the lathe when I bought it brand new ! I've never used them, the gearbox has always had what ever I needed. Except in this case.

I've not been able to fit any of the gears that I have onto the existing banjo to get what I need, which is four threads on a 9 mm piece.

              Thanks all:

                Hi Simon,

I would love to just borrow one, but just as happy to buy.

                Thanks:

PS. I've no idea how PM works.

                  Hello John

Do you only have the banjo that goes with the gearbox? It is the one with the fixed pins and two compound gears of 57/19 teeth, one of which is reversible on the pin that is closed by the swing latch . from your comment above and in the earlier correspondence I am beginning to suspect that is the case.

There is a way round using a home made offset I designed in place of the standard straight lower clamp bolt to secure the banjo. It has the effect if lowering the whole thing and then all manner of wheel sizes can be fitted as the primary driver. It is all shown in my book on gearboxes, Arc are selling copies at £12.50. I can't show the drawing here as I will get hammered by the publishers for infringing their copyright!

                  Regards

                  Brian

                    Hello Brian,

Yes that is right. For all the years I've had this lathe, I've never had occasion to do anything with the change wheels other than turn the fine feed one round.

Actually if the device is the one that I think you are talking about, as shown in the few sample pages, I tried to buy the book from ARC and was told that they didn't stock it. ?

                    Thanks.

                      Hello John,

Well, how interesting. I have just checked the book section on the Arc website, the book is selling for £12.75 and as of today they have one in stock.

You will I imagine have already found that the pins on the standard gearbox banjo will accept the standard bore size of Myford change wheels but being fixed in position you can only vary them within totals of 76 teeth and still get them to mesh. What Myford sold was the expensive metric conversion set [£250 or so when I last saw an advert] which provides a new banjo with two variable position studs and a supply of new change wheels totalling 12 in number.

My offset stud allows the 'gearbox' banjo to be used for many different screw-cutting ratios and it retains the fine feed, another casualty of the metric conversion

If Arc are out of stock, Amazon sell it too

                      Regards

                      Brian
