I have a commercial boiler unused for a Rob Roy.
      Date tested by manufacturer 19/03/03
It seems that commercial boiler manufactuers could not comply with 2002 regulations ie tracability of copper. They thought that they had a dispensation to
continue to make boilers without CE mark.
The Northern/Southern Fed insurance have advised that any boiler from 2002 can only be tested if it has a CE mark.
A dealer has told me that he is being offered one or two locos/traction engines
each week with commercial boliers post 2002 from many builders that have no CE mark and he has to advise the owner that he has a major problem.
Most commercial boiler makers added CEmark from June 2003.
The problem boilers are from 2002 to June 2003.
      Comments please.

Let me be the first to state the obvious, if it passes the hydraulic and then the steam test, where is the problem? Oh, apart from paranoia, that is.
Perhaps the ghost of Curly should arise to save the country from well meaning, petty- minded nitwits.

            Hi There
Do the dealers use the lack of a CE mark to knock down the price?
            Are they still buying them?
            regards David

Speak to an independant professional boiler inspector you may be able to get the boiler tested by them and then insure direct with one of the specialist model insurers rather than through a club.

The other option is to get retrospective testing and CE marking but I believe this is rather expensive.

I can’t say for definite without measuring it but a Rob Roy boiler is probably below the 2 litre capacity limit. If so, it must NOT carry the CE mark, even though commercially made. For it to do so would be contrary to the PED and, in theory, illegal.

What are the dealers saying about own built boilers?
