Is that boring or drilling as It appears to me as if it is drilling but then drilling really can be classed as boring.

To me it is drilling and the #deepholedrilling by themanufacturer would tend to support that.

Even if the process of drilling to that size is usually a bit boring, that tool would speed things up. Though not sure if many hobby machines would have the grunt to keep the work rotating.

Some of the hollow cutters you also see on the net are another option for that sort of size hole with the bonus that you get a big bit of usable metal from the waste rather than a barrow load of swarf

I would assume the inserts are wider than the wall thickness of the tubular body, so remove the inserts and hopefully the core will slide out as there will be some clearance and not too much swarf packed around it.

 

As for the bit of old rope, that is holding some chip/coolant guards in place not closing the steady

Bernard, this one shows him making one of the tools. You can see that one insert holder gives clearance to the outside of the tubular body and the other clearance to the inside so the slug is a smaller diameter than the tool.

As the title of the last video attached by Jason it is neither drilling nor boring but trepanning. A hole making technique that goes back to the stoneage.
