        Hi all,

I'm new to this and would appreciate some help on how to connect a battery on a 5" gauge locomotive. The photo (see link) shows the connection to the motor/controller on the left and the battery (and its terminals) on the right. Can anyone please advise what type of connection/wire I need for this? Many thanks in advance

          Welcome, Matthew

Those connectors were originally known as 'Lucar' [Trade Name] but are more commonly just Spade Terminals.

… Any automotive parts supplier should have them in stock.

            Matthew…

i belive the connectors are Anderson type connector. Try **LINK**

If do a search on eBay for Anderson connectors I think you will find what you want. The battery connections are as Michael has indicated. The other name for them are Spade connectors or Fast on.

As a point of interest what size is your battery and motor/s, I ask as my electric shunter runs a pair of 38amp hour batteries with bolt on connectors supplying 3 x 150 watt motors. I worked on the current the motors were likely to pull say 12 amps ish so the batteries should give a two/three hours of running or may be a bit more with regen braking.

I would use normal spade connectors to connect that battery and fit a isolating switch so the batteries can be isolated easily should a problem arise.

Thanks for the extra info., John

I was, of course, only referring to the battery connection.
