5inc Robinson 04 (ROD)

Dear readers of ME, can any tell me if Don Young did bild manal of the ROD as this was the last loco that he made, I no i can obtain the drawings also if someone has done the the 04 can they tell me if there are any mistakes in the Drawings, i have not seen any in locomtives large & small other than the POM-POM tender

hi adrian,

there is no construction series by don young for the GCR ROD loco. however it shares lots of common parts with his Immingham and Jersey Lily designs. there is a detailed construction series for Jersey Lily in ME from about 1970/1971 onwards.

there is a huge problem with Jersey Lily with the eccentrics on the main driving wheel axle – the firebox throatplate is too far forward, and in order to get sufficient eccentric throw and enough room for the eccentrics and straps don shows the eccentrics 'cut into' the axle, and the axle with eccentrics has to be turned from solid. i believe Immingham has the same fault.

i dont know whether the GCR ROD design by don has the same fault.

Hi Julian thank you give the info on the GCR ROD sorry it took to so long to back to you! but i not get on the site because of password would not work so had to other email. how ever in the new year im going to get the drawings i would like to know if any boby has the ROD and if they have any photos of the biuld of it. so far i have been all over the net & the only thing i have seen is the don young POM-POM Tender.
