There is a current topic on the Forum where a contributor comments on trying to find something on the Form. Therefore I looked for an old blog of mine posted in 2021. As far as I can see there are only two ways of doing this:

      1. Search using the general topic name. In this case there were over 3000 pages of returns. I had the option of viewing pages 1 to 6 (most recent) and then about 214 to 218 (2010). There is no easy and quick way of scrolling to about page 80 which may get me to 2022.

      2. Look at Activity in my Profile. Again I can only scroll through the pages but only starting from page 1.

I realise that, for most, this is only a minor inconvenience, if that, but it does hinder the use of the Forum.

I find it easier to avoid the site’s own search engine.
Instead, use Google, with the prefix to the search terms site:model-engineer.co.uk You can include your own user name in the list of search words.

On the “old” forum Neil had added a Google search box but that was another feature discarded when it was “improved”. An effective search facility is really essential.

To be fair, even large websites such as Practical Machinist don’t seem to have their own built in forum searches that work very well. The same method peak4 mentions about using a Google search instead for a more accurate, quicker and easier search result is what I do. But that seems to be less known by many than it should be.

I agree the search facility -actually a word finder as far as I can see – is pretty hopeless.  I was trying to find out experience with inverter drives and had the same experience the OP describes.

The search function on Traction Talk is light years ahead on obsolete forum software.  Explain.

Try this. Open a google search page and click AI Mode at the right hand end of the search bar. Type in your query like this:

find and link to posts by <name> on modelengineer.co.uk on the subject of <topic>

                Works pretty well.
