The Rhein-Main Street Steam Friends supported the Hanau Großauheim Museum’s Family Day with their models. There were plenty of interested spectators, and there were also bouncy castles and other children’s entertainment on offer for families. Refreshments were available too, though unfortunately the crowds were so large that there were long queues. The weather more than made up for everything – it was simply fantastic.
The narrow-gauge steam locomotive had a problem in the late afternoon: the right-hand brake block had come loose from the retaining rod and was blocking the right-hand front wheel. As it later transpired, a retaining pin had come loose which secures the brake block’s mounting to the shaft. After a reasonable amount of time, the problem was resolved by the competent crew and the locomotive was back on the move, albeit with only half its braking power.
The atmosphere amongst the crew is relaxed, and you get the impression they’ve been working together for decades. It’s very pleasant.
As a bit of a paparazzo, I tried to capture the atmosphere.
