Hi, I am making a 10mm tool holder for 6mm round insert for mini lathe. Walter does not sell 10mm tool holders for this.

I cannot find the thread type from them, I have a company I can maybe order a 2.5mm tap.

      Screw:
      FS2061           KGRPS   T7IP

      Walter 12mm Holder=SRDCN1212F06(I want a 10mm)

      Thankyou….

Yep unless you like making tools there are plenty of other suppliers out there doing 10mm shank holders.

But if your inserts are the regular RCMT and RCGT 06 then a M2.5×0.45 Torx screw with the usual 60degree angle will do the job.

How much work is it to remove 2mm of material from the base of a 12mm holder compared to making a complete holder, its insert pocket (which is tapered) plus tapping the thread plus buying the screw?

Yes, Actually I have 10mm holder set for this small lathe, and I looked and can just mill the nose round, the insert fits good to rest of holder and its then the correct height as well, I can than order another 10mm holder, I just need to mill the sides at front so it looks right. This is an option.

But I will need the tap in any case for something else where this insert sits in front of a cut off boring bar.

So I just need to know which tap.

As I said M2.5 x 0.45. is the thread so any M2.5 metric coarse tap will do.
