I need 4 wheels, preferably with 12 spokes with drive lobes for a freelance 71/4 im building. Need to be 6" dia across load bearing flats. Reeves have some but at £60 per wheel it is never going to happen. Any ideas?

          Hi Fizzy ,

          (1) Make wheels as welded assemblies .

Big lump for the middle , tube for the rim and flat bar or round bar spokes .

          (2) CNC from solid .

          (3) Flame cut basic spider and trim by milling or windy grinder .

          (4) Use non-standard wheels .

Early engines had a whole range of different wheel designs before the later simple spoked type was arrived at as normal .

          Some types :

Plate wheels – literal – made of boiler plate with separate tyres . Could be simple but quite often in several layers of plate with divers holes and cutouts .

Cart wheel – wooden centres . Solid or spoked . Tufnol and glew ?

Channel , T , H and round spokes forge welded to tyre and centre piece .

          Many more !

          Regards ,

          MikeW
