I am trying to restore an older type Myford which has been lying for years.I am a retired engineer and have not seen this type of tailstock before it has a large thread onto which the handwheel is threaded when the wheel is turned the thread screws into and out of the tailstock .I want to dismantle it was seized when I got and still very stiff I am doing this for a friend my own lathe is a chester crusader

Whatever you do, take your time don't get too heavy handed. I had a similar situation with mine when I got it – it had been left in a shed to rot and was seized. After using WD40 for a bit I tried a large lever arm ….. and broke the casting.

Replacements are are hard to get and expensive. People who have one for sale know this. I ended up repairing mine but it was tricky and time-consuming but did work very well in the end. Much better not to break it in the first place .

You could drop it in a bucket of WD40 and go on that round-the-world trip you've been promising the wife.
