I may be thick, but I don't understand what you've done. In the photos, I can't see that anything has changed. Could you help with a bit more detail?

            Graham.

I'm glad you can make it out, 'cos I've a list of adverts running straight through the text (yours included).

            Martin.

I assume he's replaced the usual stud/nut arrangement on these chucks by drilling through to the front of the chuck, counterboring on that side and using a SHCS from that side.

Presumably the helicoils are used in the spindle flange holes (the picture isn't that clear).

Its likely to be a front mount chuck so no drilling required.

Just tap the flange for the helicoils and fit same

Alternatively – do the roller bearing modification, and get an extra 5mmm of space behind the mounting flange.

                    Simples!

My machine has been fitted with tapered bearings and fitting the nuts is much easier. Don't the roller bearings make a fantastic difference to the performance.

I'm very happy with the roller bearings, although it seems mine was happier than most with the ball bearings.

Hi glad to hear that there are happy chaps with the roller bearing mod…

Did a timed test to-day 40 seconds 3 jaw off and four jaw on.

Thats what I was going on about
