My father used to be an engineer and I think I'm a frustrated one. Many years after pottering about on his lathe I've bought a Metric Boxford A.

Currently making a mess of some aluminium stock practiising threads. It's fun trying to get there….

Stick with it Paul, you'll have a lot of fun finding out what works and what doesn't.

Hello Paul and welcome. Don't forget, if you have any questions, this is where to ask them.

Thanks. I suspect I will have questions. I've already stripped the apron, cross slide and compound to degrease, clean and tighten up.

I'm already making plans that I'll be completely taking down and repainting.

Welcome, Paul, when I cut external threads, I always take a just visible cut first and then check if I have got the pitch correct.

I often look at the thread charts on thr Motalia website, they can be useful.

Paul, I have a friend who likes to rebuild his machines, just for his own use and he gets a local company to strip the old paint and then powder coat using a very close match to the original Myford grey.

                    Just a thought.
