Once again I find myself in need of the assistance of the members of the forum.

The photograph shows the constituent parts of a micro burner that I have had for a good few years now, which has always proved to be a sturdy and reliable piece of kit……until recently, when it started spitting and spluttering and sometimes no gas at all.

I took it apart and cleaned it and now I only get a non-aerated orange flame. I am not sure of the order in which the small washer, microfilter and stainless steel disc came out, but whichever order I put them back in I can't seem to generate the required gas flow to provide aeration to the flame.

Eyesight not being what it was, could I have lost a part?

Does anybody recognise the burner as it has no maker's marks and if I can't fix it I wouldn't mind a new one.

Here goes uploading the photo……it might end up on another post. Well I'm blowed……I managed to do it first time.

I have something which resembles yours. I'll take a look later this evening and let you know how mine is assembled. Mine is leaking at the black O-ring. Still have to fix it….

Mine split along the brass tube between the body and the burner. Quite exciting having a yellow flame going sideways if I remember correctly!

I now have a piezo 'cooks blowtorch', great for small brazing jobs and useful for lighting a big torch.

Here is what I've got. I can't get it further apart so you have to give me instructions what to do next. It is the right side I have to take apart? It should screw loose in a normal direction?

Hmm. The picture flipped so the right side is now on the left. I mean the nozzle and not the part with the O-ring.

This is the gas tank side of mine. I hope this is the right order but these parts dropped out …

Thanks for taking the trouble dismantling your burner. Although similar, your one is different to mine. There are no springs on my set-up and it looks to be shorter in length. As for the nozzle, on mine it unscrews conventionally ie right hand thread. Do you have any idea who the maker was? I have got another small burner but in the past this one has been a really good performer.

Mine is from ETC but it is over 30 years old. The black conical spring seems to be cosmetic because the parts surrounding it are locked solid.

Hi Mick,

I believe you have all the parts of a micro torch marketed by Draper (and others) circa 1990s

I bought my example from B&Q but other stores may still have slow moving stock on their Draper stands.

MachineMart offer a suspiciously similar torch as part of a Clarke soldering kit CBT5K for £28+vat

FWIW

My example failed soon after purchase, self extiguishing/erratic flame problem. A number of dismantle/clean attempts resulted in the restriction disc being lost. Using the twist on/off valve would not produce a bunsen flame just a yellow flame as you decsribe.

In my case a replacement disc made from Bacofoil punctured by a sewing needle restored normal operation.

I can't remember the disc reassembly order other than the washer was last to prevent the foil replacement disc being torn by torsion on reassembly
