      Hi, I’ve bought a 5 pin stop/start switch ….I think I should have got a 4 pin one.

I’ve wired the 5 pin in the cable between the wall plug and the drum switch…easy enough but when I press the green start button the lathe springs to life but when I release the green button the lathe stops. I think the green button should stay down until I press the red stop button. The small 5th pin is not in use.

      Can I somehow use the 5 pin switch ? Or do I need a 4 pin ?
      thanks in advance.

A lot of the cheap start/stop switches are like doorbell push switches and designed to operate a relay, you need a latching type. The number of pins is irrelevant.

can you provide a link to the switch you bought please? Otherwise we are just guessing which helps no one.

That said you probably just need to add a link on the back of the switch.

"A" is obviously the feed to the solenoid, which operates and holds the contacts closed, now you have connected it to the outgoing supply.
