I'm looking to buy or make a flexible cable which I can fit to my flashguns to make a concentrated and 'pointable' output. Not wishing to reinvent the wheel but is there such a device already? if not any ideas on construction – I was thinking of a microphone gooseneck as the outer shell.

I'm also looking for a source of second user microscope objectives – again any ideas?

Charles, yes there are devices for spot illumination by fibre optic cable, also ring lights that fit around the objective for shadowlwss lighting.

Try contacting Leica Microscopic dept, but take a pill before looking at prices. maybe they have 2nd. hand?

If you get a fibre optic lamp you will need a light box as well to provide the light to go through the fibre optic.

Ring lights are mainly self powered.

Photographers sometimes use snoots which are basically reflective pieces of fabric with velcro attached, wrapped around the head of a flashgun. These give directional or shielded lighting

Possibly not exactly what you need, but worth a look? Adaptalux Lights
