                      Wayne,

Those are outside jaws for a Taylor chuck, they are not reversible. The chucks came when new with three bar gripping jaws as well.

                      Regards

                      Brian

These look like jaws for a Taylor 4½" 3-jaw chuck, their smallest and I think the only ones to have these jaws. Not reversible but double sided like most chucks. The larger Taylors have only one-sided jaws.

Your jaws would fit one of these:

                            Taylor 4?

Hello Wayne, depending on how much you would charge, I could certainly use them.

I bought a 4 1/2" Taylor chuck a few years ago, but it only came with two sets of specially made jaws; presumably welded up from a couple of sets of soft jaws.
I've been looking for a set of standard ones for a while now.

The Taylor chuck is rightly revered and, judging by the yellow paint on Robbo's, the projection of the jaws is also feared!

I have one of these but feel it is rather over-heavy for my Super 7.

That 4½" chuck weighs in at 5.5 kilos with backplate, I have it with a Boxford plate. I think the Boxford can easily manage that.

The yellow paint seems standard, though I do have a 5½" without it, and another 5½" with it.  Don't use them since I got the 4½".  The 5½" ones only have single sided jaws for holding bar through the chuck.  Other jaws were available.

                                          Robbo:

                                          Thanks for the additional information.

I got my Taylor chuck out from the back of the cupboard and checked it for any sign of yellow paint – not a scrap, but it seems like a good idea to apply some.

My chuck is the 4.5" four jaw self centring type with gripping surfaces on both sides of the jaws and weighs about 4.5 KG without backplate which makes it significantly heavier than any of the chucks in use with the Myford. Weight apart, there is the extra overhang that the Taylor design involves; when considering using it I wondered about incorporating the register and thread within the chuck body and dispensing with a backplate but opted to get a TOS brand 4J SC instead.
