SuperLux problem with R8 Collets etc

Hi all,

Have just bought a Super Lux mill, and am having a problem with some R8 tooling. I bought some collets, a drill chuck arbor and an MT3 adapter from Arc, some of them are a very tight fit, and some collets don't fit at all.

I am not blaming the collets, although the keyway slots do seem to vary in depth a bit, and that is why some fit and some don't.

There are two set screws protruding inside the spindle, and the top one seems to be a bit too far out. Unfortunately, while I can see the top one, I can't see a way to get a screwdriver to it to adjust.

The picture below is from a site **LINK** with a similar problem, but the hole at the bottom to access the screw is not on my quill – the screw is visible at the bottom of the vertical slot, but not accessible.

Any ideas ?

I have used the side of a small flat file to slightly deepen the slots on some Bridgeport brand R8 collets that had similar problems. May be worth trying on your problem tooling.

Thanks Martin, I was hoping someone with a RF45 had dealt with the set screws. The thought of filing on half of any R8 tooling I ever buy is depressing but may be the only option
