Hi, looking for advice/recommendations for a bench grinder for sharpening drills and lathe tooling, lathe is a colchester master to give an idea of tool sizes. Been tentatively looking and can’t find anything (half reasonable price) with a decent tool rest!! Any suggestions welcomed

I have used a record power 8 inch with 2 wheels one a 40mm wide grit and a 25mm grey grit its been ok

Tool rests always seem to unsubstantial so I’ve made upgrades to them.

However I’ve just finished building a large grinder using belts so its surplus to requirements

If you can collect from sheffield you can have it for a good price

Forget finding a new unit with a decent tool rest – expect to make something there. Otherwise the 10in Trojan from Screwfix seems very good value.

I think that this Crusen is worth the money It runs true and has reasonable tool rests but I have reinforced them with a gage plate top You get what you pay for.

I’ve got a grinder but I do most of my sharpening on a belt sander.

There are best part of twenty threads for a forum search of “bench grinder”. Have you read those?

You won’t be guaranteed to get anything good at half of a decent price.

Location (profile)? Someone local may have a good grinder which is surplus.

‘Best you can afford’ would be my advice. Buying cheap often leads to buying twice.
