Looking for guidance to build an approx. 4` long passenger carriage.

Have substantial pair of pivoted double bogies. Would like help on superstructure bracing for load bearing. Size of m/s angle or box section etc.

A photo from underside would be appreciated as will happily reverse engineer.

Not many articles on passenger trucks considering the amount of passenger carrying ME folk do

          2726 and 2408

Apparently Henry Greenly did an article with drawings in the Dec 3 1908 issue

I did find this **LINK** which may help.

It will need Microsoft Word if you have trouble with opening it let me know (PM) as I have converted it to a PDF

I like the end pieces on the link supplied by bob. We have to have thick rubber mat over the couplings on our club ones. 1/4 ply box section will be pretty strong for most use unless you have some 18 stone passengers.

I also recommend the lifting handles and suggest light springs (bungee rope) to align the bogies fore and aft when lifting onto track.

There is an article Building a 5" gauge passenger coach it starts in ME Vol 175 issue 4007 & goes on for a total of 18 articles the last being Vol 178 issue 4041. Sorry I can`t help other than this as I disposed of most of my back copies. I seem to remember it was pretty well detailed as a coach but was also suitable a a ride on vehicle.

Hope this helps. Have a look on Colin Usher`s site it gives all the issues.

We have a flexible section that loosely joins the carriages right around the ends, to stop little hands from going between the carriages. Not sure where the 1/4 ply box section comes, from typo? the author used 1/2", if you are in the UK then B and Q sell 12mm WBP plywood and the larger stores can cut it to size for you.

I wanted a 2" strip cut off the edge of a 24" ply board for a benchtop.

"Sorry we can't cut smaller than 9" for H&S reasons."

"But it's the big bit I need making smaller!"

                      "That's OK then."

Naturally I took away both bits. The offcut has made a nice trough at the back for hiding cables etc. in. I just need to make a lid for it.

Rod, I was rummaging around in the workshop yesterday and came across a copy of a Model Engineer article on making club trollies, its umpteen pages long and a bit worse for wear (we use it as our standard club design) but if its any use I can scan it in for you.
