Hi there, i own a Sieg SC2 and on my list of modifications is to power the lead screw with a variable speed motor of some sort, i know nothing about motors and electronics so any advice would be much appreciated,
i am trying to build a variable power feed for my lathe and mill. i chose to use an ordinary motor as stepper motors need controllers. i managed to knock up a pulse width modulation speed controller fairly quickly.make your own pwm controller
the trouble im having is finding a motor with enough torque at low speeds(without excessive gearing) and enough of a speed range to get a range of feeds easily.
another alternative is gutting an old cordless drill for the speed control and planetary gearbox.
