Has anybody got experience of a Tom Senior ELT SV. A three phase version has come up for sale locally and I'm going to view it next week.

The main point I'm unsure about it the X axis power feed. The power feed is derived with the aid of an electric motor and gearbox. I believe this motor may possibly be a DC motor supplied from a PCB within a control box mounted on the side of the suds tank. Does anybody have any experience of the wiring and supply voltage to the DC supply PCB ?

I have a Light Vertical (S) model with a similar drive system. On mine at least, the DC drive panel takes a 240v, single phase supply.

From the net, it appears that a choice of drives was available. Would a change to an AC motor and VFD be a simple alteration? If so, a DC drive would not be too daunting (should it fail completely) if the price and condition is OK.

Hi Peter,

I put a few pictures in an album for you, as requested. My mill is (I think) 1976 vintage, so it's possible yours will differ.

I don't have any pictures of the switch panel. Mine is in bits currently (long story).

When I first bought it, over 20 years ago, I phoned Denford and spoke to an ex-TS man who told me that the DC table drive was installed by Simplatroll at Leeds. He reckoned that only three Light Verticals had the conversion, although that seems hard to believe (I think it was standard on the VS). He also relieved me of, I seem to recall, £30 for a copy of manual – which Denford themselves produced following their takeover of TS. What arrived in the post was a few badly typed, badly copied (and mostly irrelevant) sheets – with some duplicated and others missing! To add insult to injury, it turned up on the internet FOC a few years later.

The main motor on the head of mine is three phase – but originally single voltage, delta wound. I had to unpick the star point from the windings before I could run it on an inverter.
