A fortnight ago I decided to make a re-start on a new model. Having done a ponder over the plans I realised that the job would be easier if the machine vice I use on the mill had a location strip fitted on the underside.

Set to and made a location strip – undersize—ggrrrr. Made another the right size. Clamped strip in jaws, upended vice and realised that I needed some heavier duty clamps.

Made a pair of clamps, one OK and one with a mistake. Out with the welder and added metal where it was needed. Couldn't remove the caravan type welder plug it was stuck solid, busted plug trying. Phoned electrician, he'll come in a fortnight.

Tried to lock shed up but the weight of all the new machinery has distorted the front of the workshop (summer house). Removed door and rehung.

Re-machined welded clamp. Machined slot in bottom of vice. Bolted vice down and checked jaws were aligned square to table – sigh of relief!

I'll be up the shop again tomorrow to make a start on the model – provided the soddit monster has not been up there again while I have been asleep. I'll get there though. I will, I really will……crying 2            Rik

            Ah Rik

            I've had days like that!

Walking the dog down a country lane, a cool beer, and some quiet relaxing music usually helps.

Sounds like my Gremlin's are breeding was working on the boiler I am fitting to by B1, now the floor is swept clean, so nothing to hide it, little part drops off steam fitting, now my loco sits on a hydraulic unit that can be wheeled around, moves it out of the way nothing. gave up eventually hunting thinking I have a few spares, 30mins later look at the clean floor and lo and behold there it is at my feet.

Anyone reading who is a member of the BSMEE will have read my little story on them regarding my father in law who was a Spit pilot takeing pic's over enemy positions.

Sometimes I've found it better to shove the job to one side and pretend you don't care for a day or two. Then the gremlins go looking for a new victim and you can sneak back in. Colin
