I have a feeling that I will be informed that I was the only person in the world that had never heard of this place until a member of our MES gave a short talk and video presentation on his visit there recently. I was astounded and will be making every effort to visit next year.

Apparently there are occasions when private owners can take their loco and drive it round the layout but I have no details as to how you may apply to run. Perhaps someone can provide us with the information. In any event, it looks an outstanding achievement in model engineering, albeit by obviously professional model makers.

The Park offers VIP tickets where you can drive one of their locomotives. I am not aware of the possibility to run your own locomotive other than at the International  Steam Festival where they suggest that there will be 150 locomotives.

There is limited information in english on their website

The Swiss Vapeur Parc is a miniature park in Le Bouveret, a village on Lac Léman, Switzerland.

We keep having posts with only half the information. Is it really so hard to provide some basic information with a video link?

YouTube seems to provide adequate information … including a link to the travel-agent’s website.

Presumably as there is steam but no smoke, their locos are gas fired, and some are either low voltage electrically powered from the track or battery powered?

The steam locomotives are coal fired and the others are petrol electric as described here:

If one reads the information provided with the video you will see what they run.

And the parc’s website shows both types of loco

I’m sure it’s been mentioned before BUT during WW2 when no coal was available in Switzerland they converted steam locos to electric – put simply they turned them into big electric kettles with pantographs on the cab roof to pick up power for the heating elements. Noel.
