The restored Bluebird powerboat used by Sir Malcolm Campbell to break the world water speed record in the 1930s has been tested at speed at Bewl Water.

          Hi Ady

Read that as well but did you see the state of the drive coupling after the throttle was opened a little to quickly. It looked like a wrung out old style tooth paste tube or the neck of a Christmas cracker crook.

Note to designer ' Make it stronger or limit engine acceleration' .

          Cheers

          Martin

His son Donald was also after the record. We were all very excited at the prospect of a new record so the attempt was screened live and it had a huge audience. I remember watching the attempt on Coniston Water when his boat became airborne and flipped. They found his helmet but I seem to remember that they never found his body. We were all stunned and shocked.

See here and scroll down to '1967'.

            Regards

            Terry

His body was found a couple of years ago by the same team who recovered K6

Contary to popular opinion he didn't come out of a tap in Manchester.

Terry, I think they also found his mascot (Mr Whoppit/ Woppit?) a little stuffed bear. Ian S C

Mr. Woppit was found very shortly after the disaster. Gina Campbell, his daughter, has had it ever since.

Thanks for the original link to the run!
