As well as LH Sparey's "The Amateur's Lathe" it's worth getting his little book "A Man and His Lathe" as well.

Sounds like it should be subtitled " …A Joy For Life"

I've modified the spindle lock lever to a longer, chunkier size with a knob on the end, it's very handy when you are using a collet chuck regularly.

As your S7 is an older one, when you adjust the gib strip for the saddle, adjust the screw on the extreme right last! On the early version with the guiding done by the front bed way, there is nothing on the other side of the bed opposite the adjusting screw, and you can push the saddle out of alignment if you happen to do the right hand end first. Ask me how I know!!

G Thomas to follow. I think Santa's bringing that one

A good read there, but you seem to have got two "Lathework A Complete Course". You will have to read it in stereodevil Perhaps someone here would like a copy?

Well  here is a really cheap (free!) mod to remind you of the direction to move the lever for auto cross / long feed:-

                    feed direction.jpg

Then buy or make a guard for the motor to stop swarf getting in there!

Good luck with your Myford – I really like mine!

That looks a good mod. Did you make or buy the motor guard? Know of any drawings? Thanks

                        Steve Bower:

The first photo in my Miscellaneous album shows the similar guard I made for my standard S7.
This became redundant when I upgraded to VFD.

PM me if you are interested.

Good spot. I was over-enthusiastic. Got a refund from Amazon, & didn't need to return! That's the wife's Chrissy sorted then!

Er… doesn't that depend on the number of wheels in your set up? I don't think it's true for all of them.

When it's an odd number of gears you just don't look at the notice.

Hmmm – with the gearbox you don't often change the no. of gears wink 2
