In building Invicya from 31/2 gauge scaled up to 71/4 plans. All the valve linkages are steel with steel pins. Im a bit concerned about steel on steel, any comments please?

          Hi Fizzy ,

Have you got a real name – calling you Fizzy all the time seems a bit discourteous !!!!

Seriously – no problem with steel pins in steel links but for a sound job use pins which are both hard , true and well polished . Silver steel ' as is ' at a pinch but better hardened dowel pins or rollers from needle roller bearings .

Pins often don't need much retention end wise – light press usually adequate .

Finish in the hole that pin runs in is also important – ream to close fit on pin .

          Regards ,

          Michael Williams .

Thanks Michael, for 'political' reasons i rather prefer not using my real name, anonimity is much prefered. I will crack on with the rest of the valve train!! Having a baby tomorrow so things might be on hold for a while!!
