steam ports

I am making an engine , 2 cylinders , 1 inch bore , The plan doesn't give the port to cylinder end drill sizes . Would 2 x 3mm drillings pass enough steam ? Then a rebate into cylinder end 3 x2 mm at each drilling ? not much room for anything bigger

What is the stroke, what is the inlet port size, is it just for display running or do you want it to do actual work, Wat is teh engine you have plans for?

its a 2 cylinder traction engine , cylinders 1inch x 2 inch , steam ports are 1/2 inch x I/8 inch . R,S and J engine

Two holes does sound a bit restrictive is there any chance of getting 3 x 3mm in?

By way of comparrison my 2" Fowler has a 2" stroke but larger 1.375" bore which works out about double the area of your 1" bore and ports are double at 1" x 1/8" , that has six 1/8" holes, you do have to pack them in a bit tightly though.

a bit limited by the stud holding the valve chest on , but might be able to open up the drillings to 3.5 mm
