Steam boiler help

hi

I am making a smithy type water tube boiler to run a engine 1.1/8” bore x 2” stroke and I would like to know how many stays I need and the dia of the stays the boiler is 14” long 5 1/4” dia 10 gauge with 3 1/2” water tubes I am looking for around 90 psi I have see that LBSC has a water tube boiler on rose a 2.5” gauge loco that runs at 80 psi but it doesn’t have stays just the regulator tube

Best bet is to talk to whoever will inspect and certify the boiler before you cut or buy any metal.

You don't see many Smithie type boilers that big. As the diameter of the main barrel goes up the ration between heating surface and water volume goes down. May have a job making 90psi and any usable volume of steam.

Top of my head I would say 3/16" stays, 1" spacing and 4mm endplates. But go by the inspector and/or do some calculations.
