I have this motor I am trying to reverse direction of but failing miserably. I have followed the motor instructions on the underside of the connector cover and it still turns in the same direction.

Seems pretty straightforward if depicted a little strangely.

U1-U2 is the run winding, Z1-Z2 is the start winding.

The capacitor is always connected one end to live. The turn clockwise Z1 connects to the capacitor and Z2 to neutral. To turn anti-clockwise Z2 connects to the capacitor and Z1 to neutral.

Not trying to be funny, Bernard … but I doubt you have followed them exactly

I suspect you are inadvertently reversing a winding.

Hi Bernie, Interesting depiction of a diagram – it shows the centrifugal switch in the centre of the start windings ! Looks simple enough – have you swapped the U connections instead of the Z ?

I will be coming through Norwich this evening I can stop by and help you if you wish. I will PM my number. Noel.

I have only moved cap wire and link wire, I have not touched Z! Z2 or U1 U2

If you're sure that you have followed the schematic try disconnecting one end of the cap and run the motor. If it behaves the same as before then the start circuit is not being invoked. Either because of a faulty cap or because of a stuck centrifugal switch most likely.

If the motor just now hums or is reluctant to start then re-visit the wiring.

Another possibility is that someone has changed the terminal connections in some fashion. I've seen this several times. How it would cause the above effect I couldn't say.

You said the motor does run, so cap and centrifugal switch both are OK. Looking a diagram on the left, leave the incoming mains wires L & N where they are as shown. Move the wire/lead which is attached to U2 to the position of existing U1 and move the wire/lead which was originally in position U1 to U2. In other word exchange the run winding. Ted

I am a fewmmiles from the motor but will try your suggestions in a day or two and post progress.
