I have aquired an unfinished camelback straight edge, the surface is just planed, so needs to be scraped in. Well I made a start on it today with the scrapers I have which are good makes ie Eclipse and Moore and Wright and they will just not hold their edge on this cast iron after a couple of scrapes they just slide on the surface and don't cut and need honing. I have used these scrapers on many machine slideways over the last 40 years with no ploblem. This iron is an absolute no go with normal scrapers so am thinking maybe of making a scraper using a lathe tool carbide insert , any thoughts from members on here ???? Regards David

Dave, this is what you need,a bit pricey though.Or braze a tip on yourself if you have the means.

I have used them in my previous life and wouldn't have gone back to anything else. John
