I am looking for advice on the best possible ways by which I can sell a Year-Going Longcase Clock. The construction of this particular longcase year-going clock, by F P Matravers, is described in a series of articles he wrote for Model Engineering and that where published in 12 consecutive issues from August 1997 to July 1998.

Sadly F P Matravers died over 10 years ago and his window is now living in a care home.

I have attached a couple of photographs on the clock

Your help & suggestions would be most welcome

      Thanks

      Mike Holmes

I suggest a clock specialist auction house rather than any of the usual ME outlets. Probably not many made and even if there were it is the prototype.

To my layman's eye that appears to be a fine piece of work with wide appeal and, as Bazyle suggests, not a typical ME item. Bonham's of London are clock specialists. Contacting them might be a useful first step.

Does it go as well as it looks?

Dreweatts hold auctions of model engineering items as well as clocks. Considering the provenance together with copies of the magazines they may well be interested.

Thanks for your input and suggestions to contact a specialist auction house.

It is much appreciated. I will try making contact with both Bonham's and Dreweatts. The clock is in Cheshire so geography / transport will be a consideration

It will be interesting to see the level of interest given the Year-going Clock is not an antique.

Yes the clock does run for a year once wound.

                Cheers, Mike

Most auction houses sell specialist items, my local had an auction of clocks, grandfather etc and fine furniture last Friday, a couple of the grandfathers were very nice and expected to fetch £1000 + I bought a 1905 Junghans table/mantel clock which strikes every quarter and westminster chimes on the hour, Its all done on line and can reach the whole uk, the online site sends me sales from AH all around the uk.

                    Hi Martin

Thanks for your comments re the auction houses. I have started to look at a few of their websites and will probably contact 2-3 to test the interest and the logistics. I am assuming that at some point in the process I will need to move the longcase clock from its current location in Cheshire to the auction house? …or does the buyer arrange collection from the seller?

                    Thanks, Mike
