      Hi

I am a recent lurker who has been reading lots of great posts from many of the long standing members of this forum and it was time to introduce myself.

I live and work in Aberdeenshire, I have owned a 4 1/2" Boxford for over 15 years and usually get involved in making bits and pieces for fly fishing and fly tying.

I mainly work on small diameter work in non ferrous materials and have a love hate relationship with Titanium, very slow to work on my Boxford but is is a fantastic material to handle when finished. I am working on a travel fly tying vice at the moment and will try to upload a few photos when I get it finished.

I will be looking for a milling machine in the near future and may pester the members for advice on possible options.

      regards

      Kevin.

Another in Scotland ! At this rate we could start a club and get a boiler certified without having to travel hundreds of miles !. I'm north of Aberdeen.

I am in North East Scotland too, in Moray. I think the difficulty with setting up clubs here that does not really exist in England and Wales is small populations separated by large distances.

Hi Gordon W, As a certain Mr Marx [ Groucho ] said… "I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member " or something like that. smiley . I think there are a few others from our neck of the woods on the forum.

                  cheers.

Raymond- I agree with you, and Mr Marks. It was just that many years ago I wanted to build a traction engine, but gave up when I realised the impossibility of being able to use it in public. Distance is relative, 2 hrs driving is fairly normal.

I agree that 2 hours driving can be pretty much par for the course up here. That said, most clubs of this nature would most likely meet in the evenings, and a 2 hour drive there and back doesn't leave much time for meeting, and that after possibly being at work all day. That was the point I was trying to make.

I'm in what the local council tells me is Moray, but I still prefer to call it Banffshire.

Hi Guys, thanks for the warm welcome.

On checking last night I noticed that I had already registered many months ago but often watch from the sidelines on most of the fishing forums, I will try to post when I feel I have something worth adding to a thread in the forum.

A recent advert in the classifieds forced me into getting back on the forum.

I should have welcomed Kevin to the forum rather than get involved in discussions on the area we call home….. Welcome, and Happy New Year!
