This old but well reconditioned lathe has a problem , or maybe it's my inexperience that's showing?
My problem is that when drilling into a delrin bar held in the chuck, the drill tends to snatch, it tends to get drawn into the bar. There appears to be longitudinal play in the barrel thread. The thrust plate is a nice tight fit into the body but there is a slight play in the groove of the shaft into which it fits. The handwheel is also loose on the threaded area of the barrel which allows the barrel to move which I think may cause the snatching.
I don't know if this is normal longitudinal play that one would expect, I'm guessing that it is between 2 and 5 thou. Otherwise the barrel fits snugly in the body without any lateral play at all.
Do I need a new part?
Any advice appreciated
