I am going to machine the guides onto the valve chest.

I messed up with the cylider barrels, and I now have 1 3/16" bore and not 1 1/4". i doubt it will make much difference to me.

When you said you'd messed up, I thought perhaps you'd gone over, now that might have been a problem, but under all OK, done that myself. Nice work so far. Ian S C

Thank You. I made the OD of the barrel too small. the wall would have been less than 1/16" at 1.25 bore.

                  The cylinders are coming along.

Last night I made up all the rod guides and fitted them. I thought that I may paint it green, so I tried out a bit. I don't like it much, it is too light, needs a darker shade I think.

You're really pulling trees up now.Looks like you're level with the series.

I'm chewing the cylinders out of some cast iron weights, given to me by a farmer.

Does anybody know if the insulation recesses are necessary,or will they be ok left solid. Most people will use insulation but I wonder if that is because the recesses are already cast in,so they do it ?

I understand that the cols cylinders will take longer to warm up,but is that a big problem???

Hope someone can advise please. John

I am almost up to it. I have to make the slide valves and pistons yet. I will try the pistons tonight.

The slide valves will take a night or two. I only have a "FIRST" Mill drill that is 100% digit operated. My digits get a bit weary at times! The only electronic digital equip. in my shop are the calipers.

                        My lathe is a 30 y.o Hercus 9" swing x 40" centers.

I did make 2 pistons last night. I was only able to fit the rod to 1, and fit it to the cylinder. lots of lapping etc. More than I imagined.

Made the slide valves and fitted them. The pistons and seals are also fitted.

Back to making things from the latest installment.

The Cyl drain cocks under construction.

The drain cocks are now assembled and mounted on the cylinders. I made the connecting link and all the other little bits last night. No pics yet. I will take them tonight.

I am still working away. I used the 65000psi drill and file to make the motion pieces from the last installment.

Wish I had access to a water jet cutter like that. Would certainly speed up the plate work. I found a local machine shop with one but haven't made any contacts there to see if I can get some small run items done.

James, it is easier on them if you can give them a digital file of the pieces that you want. either a .dwg or .dxf.
