I can't help but feel this is targeted, the average person has no idea what those things are worth, horrible to think there are people who immerse themselves in to a modelling community to scope out targets, I may well be completely wrong, it's happened more than once, just my gut feeling.

Obsessives come in all shapes and sizes, common sense not relevant

The one who stuck in my mind was a 60 year old guy found dead at the bottom of a 60 foot tree

He'd had a police record as a wild bird egg thief since his youth

Exactly. The only way to avoid this don't put your address on line, forums are not secure in any way especially as this one and others allows access to all a members posts as a block by any other member. So if you post a nice 'look at my workshop' pic anyone can check all of your posts for an address that you carelessly put up a year ago while bidding for some free inserts

Don't let strangers into your workshop while selling stuff. I only did it once and they came back a week later and got scared by the garage door alarm before they took anything.

To steal a line from' Hill St Blues' Lets be careful out there people.

If it isn't mentioned elsewhere the person who lost the models is listed as living in Godmanchester, UK.

Call me 'old-fashioned' but insuring specific items relies on the insurance company details remaining secure from the wrong eyes.

                    On a related note:-

Spring is coming and some dodgy characters start breaking into outbuildings to steal gardening equipment etc.

                    Check your security!

The last spate round here involved 'prospecting' by drilling spy-holes in the walls/doors of outbuildings, especially those accessible from lanes & footpaths – often discreetly, up high or down low, some of them quite small.

If a mysterious drilled hole unexpectedly appear in your workshop, it's a sign. At least one was given away by the owner noticing a little pile of sawdust on top of his toolbox..
