Just home from work to find my latest edition through the mailbox. I’ve got a complaint. I cant find my pull out copy of the 8 foot by 6 foot full colour poster of Super Neil racing the jet. Honestly, I’m sure MEW is losing the plot.

According to the editorial, the colour poster is in next month's issue, Issue 259 .

Just found the 'Myford 2545' – so I looked up my original copy and it say '254S'. Perhaps it has been mistaken for a date by some devilish autochecker during the setting process?

I really would not have spotted that if I hadn't been told about it, expecting a 'S' where I typed one, I'm going to see one!

Editing is such fun I use Wordperfect not that other word processor I won't mention which has been known to change words/text placement of photos when crossing between versions of OS versions of the software and even between one machine and another with same/identical.

I always published to PDF using the same set up, however this causes problems many don't realise when emailed to other staff members or publishers. If the set up they are using is not set up identical in format if still in word processing mode ie:- margins, headers & footers if text and spell checker used is not installed, graphics options, paper and even printer set up it can mean disaster for the original editor of the document.

During my time producing manuals and parts list for a vehicle builder of ambulances, taxis and buses and coaches much of the above came to the fore. Including even screen size used. Where I used a 19" CRT high end back in the 90's at home. The secretary and other staff were using 15" standard screens set up with standard low end graphics cards. More than once I had to go in and go through on their machines to re set all and sundry in the work.

It took myself and another fellow who worked in the office to prove the faults lay not in my work but that of the whole set up. Scanning bromides instead of photographs

My comments.

1) You can't and WON'T p[lease all the people all the time.

2) Ketan, as always talks (writes) a lot of sense. Much more than some of the discussions on here.

3) My wife used to write a newsletter for an animal refuge. A couple of folk thought that they could do better. When put to the test, neither could write more than enough to fill half a page, instead of the usual two pages.

4) May I commend the advice not criticise another man until you have walked a mile in his shoes.

5) MEW changed when editors changed (David Clarke, David Fenner, and Neill Wyatt. Stan Bray started the magazine, it changed as each editor took over.)

If MEW is bad for your health, raised blood pressure and so on, don't buy it and read. it

Now why don't we do what M E W is all about, and go and enjoy ourselves cutting some metal instead of just griping? I've wasted too much time on this already.

I'm feeling very sour indeed about the alleged pleasures of cutting metal. Just turned a beautiful M2.0 thread instead of M1.0 as required. It's hard to beat the delight of offering a thread up only to discover you've ruined the whole part.

If you had cut the M1.0 by mistake I can see how that can be a show stopper but M2 is bigger, unless its a female thread you are referring to?

Female threads though are not usually 'turned'.

To save anyone suggesting point;less futile remedies, I will suggest several of my own.

If a threaded hole, Helicoil insert, Self made insert, weld up/braze hole and retap,

If a male thread, cut off, drill and tap and use a stud.
