      Hello all,

A couple more questions about my ML7 rebuild if I may; firstly, what should I use to lubricate the thrust bearing and secondly, I notice quite a lot of initial resistance to movement in the reassembled spindle. The bearings are back in the same places and the same way around; the shims are in place and the spindle is clean. There are no tight spots and taking it apart again I see no signs of metal to metal contact so I am assuming it's just the viscosity of the oil causing drag. Are there any more checks or tests I can do ?

      Yrs,

      Jolly

          Hi Jolly,

I use ISO32 oil (Esso Nuto).

I took my ML7 spindle out to replace the backgear & drivebelt when I put it back together it did seem a little stiff initially I took it apart again to make sure everything was OK and it was so I ran it for a while checking for any undue heat and it soon loosened back up again.

Subsequent examination of the bearings shows no problems.

          Regards

          Paul

            Hi Jolly,

I stripped this ML7 down as there was slippage between the brass gear and the aluminium pulleys.

The main key is – ABSOLOUTLY CLEAN.

Mine also was a little tight on startup, backed off the nut for the thrust bearing and re-set then all ok.

Unlike ball races though these bearings can have slight tendency to resist initial movement.

            Regards,

            Dan
