mechanical luricator

hi i have my model running on air and have put to use my mechanical lubricator the was on enougher model,

now the question is were is the best place for the oil to be put

a) into the steam inlet pipe

or

b) directly into the reg chest

or

c) somewere else

also as to the size of pipe to use i have 3/16 pipe and quarter pipe or do i need a much smaller diameter,the cylinder bore is around 1 3/8 and a 2'' stroke

Mike does your traction engine take its steam directly from the boiler up through the cylinder to the regulator chest or does it have a separate take off from the boiler that feeds steam to the regulator chest?

Hi Jason it has a separate pipe that takes the steam supply to the reg chest

also while were here would the saftey valve go on to the boiler like a locomotive as im using a steam take off pipe to the reg chest or on top off the reg cover like traditional traction engine just so i can make a bush and get it fixed onto the cover while im there

You should be OK taking the steam to the regulator chest as it has a separate steam feed. The usual setup on a traction engine is to have the regulator chest linked to the boiler so if you put oil in there you risk it finding its way back to the boiler.

1/8" OD pipe would be sufficcient for the oil supply, worth adding a non return valve in the run.

Without seeing your setup I would say take it off the boiler as your steam pipe may restrict the escaping steam but check with your boiler inspector as they will have the final say.
