Lubrication

As a complete beginner, I'd welcome some advice on lubrication and protection of my newly-acquired Super 7B, which has powered crossfeed and a gearbox. I've searched for various threads on this, but thought I'd start a new one to be more specific. Sorry if this is very basic, but I like to get things right!

Am I right in thinking I should be applying Nuto H32 to all the nipples and oilers with lids? And VG68 (Febis?) to the slideways on the bed only?

With regard to how to apply these, I have a small capacity Reilang oil can which has a normal pointed nozzle. I could use this for the cup oilers, but obviously it won't work the spring-loaded ball in a nipple, so it may be better filled with the VG68 to dribble oil on the slideways. I have bought a secondhand (metal) Myford Wanner oil gun to use on the nipples – do I need to do anything else? Do folk generally wipe over the shiny parts to stop corrosion when not in use – 3in1, maybe?

Hydraulic fluid as used by farmers, earth moving equipment and fishing boats is OK.. Nutto H32 is recommended by Myford. There are equivalent s by other fuel companies. Ship chandlers sell it by the litre if you take a long a empty milk container for about £2. John

Yes to above ^^^ Hydraulic fluids ISO32 for all the oil-nipples and headstock oilers and ISO VG68 for ways/sliding surfaces/lead screws and gearbox.
Agricultural/tractor dealers are also a good bet out in the sticks or ebay is your friend too.
I have had good service by post from **LINK** in UK.
shiny parts get a wipe with the 68, it sticks better than 3-in-1 which can become 'gummy' over time.
My 200ml Reilang oiler gets the 32 into the ball-oilers OK

Dave, do you just hold the tip of the Reilang oiler and press on the ball in the nipples? I haven't tried it, but I'd have thought the spring would just displace the oil out sideways. Do you have a different fitting on the Reilang?

Car accessory stores that sell engine oil also keep hydraulic oil.

My Reilang puts the oil where wanted. Just press on the ball and squeeze the handle. The genuine Myford oil gun certainly prevented rust, (Oil EVERYWHERE! ) but not sure how good it was at lubricating the bearings and slldeways, other than externally.

Roger, bit late in replying, waiting for my eye to recover from cataract op on Thursday and now see (pun intended ) that Howard has covered the point in the above post, I agree with him.

Thanks, it's getting better by the day, natural progression? or due to the twice-daily ministrations of the two nice young 'independent nurses' who come round !
Busy month this month – MrsD is booked in on the 23rd for her 2nd hip replacement. Upside of that will be the same two nurses treating her for a week.

David Hawthornthwaite made an excellent maintenance booklet for the S7, describing where to oil and how often to oil. I printed it out and had it plasticized and keep it near the lathe.

If you Google “Myford Super 7 maintenance” you’ll find it on his website.
