Hi Gerd. John is still around, but not in the best of health. A few years ago he had to have a half of one lung removed and was then no longer able to use his workshop.

He sold all his tools and machines and contented himself with some model tanks. However his health has recently got worse and , like myself, now has to be content to watch daytime TV. A fate that most folk would consider to be worse than death.

To give you some idea how bad that is, i have joined Facebook to try and escape the TV.

I think it very unlikely that John will ever post on any of the ME forums again.

          Cheers, Dek.

Gerd, I was one of the folk who bought some of John's kit in his great workshop clearance.
He moved house shortly afterwards, and thus lost his BT email address, so I unfortunately lost contact with him.

I did join Home Model Engine Machinist a while ago, specifically to contact him, but he was last seen there in Oct 2020.

Dek, Thanks for that info, I hadn't realised John was still with us.
If you are still in contact with him and Wyn, please pass on my regards to both of them; he might remember me as as "Bill from Buxton". (White van, White Disco, and the Marlin in my avatar)

Amongst many other things I bought his high speed drill press and 5C collet setup.

Persevere with Facebook, there is some good stuff there if you're selective enough.

            Regards
Bill (on FB as peak4, the same as here.)

Time-filling away from the TV can get quite frustrating, especially if you only need to sleep 6 hours a day and doing "work" type things is limited before your brain goes awol

Posting on various sites can be quite enjoyable as well as informative

Places like wiki let you become an expert in the Roman empire or any other subject

There are a lot of online games that can be very immersive, I use world of tanks to fill in time

Victorians were prolific readers to fill in their long evenings

Hi Bill, had a look for you on FB but can't find you there, sent you a PM with my name so maybe you could send me a friend request.

GL, i do read quite a lot and i have a page all about myself in a book that a mate recently wrote. I am also due to have a whole chapter to myself in an other book due to be published soon. Sometime in 2023 a book about the Beatles, by Mark Lewisohn will contain various anecdotes from myself.

With my current health problems i may never get to read the 2023 one.

                Cheers Dek.

Dek, not sure which of the folks with a similar name is your account, but the Friends Request restriction on my FB page should now be lifted.

                  All the best

I know John sold out is shop , ( if only I lived closer to him ) and moved to another house and has a different email adress .

Like I said we stayed in touch , roughly on a monthly bases , but the now the last email I received dates from late december 2020 .

Knowing about his health and now with covid and all …. hence my worries .
