Thank you Gentlemen! I was advised to use the Starter as an emergency stop. Wish now I had not been. However live and learn. John yes I have a large hole through my hunting boots.

Once again I do much appreciate the kind advise.

So you have in effect got the original 3 phase overload/switch gear “in the way ” between inverter and motor.

As has been said ..bad idea.
Bad for inverter( they don’t like their load going missing during run condition)
Waste of the more finessed overload control the inverter provides.
        .

In any case if possible use dol ( which retains the overload protection and handy emergency stop functions) between supply and inverter..and inverter directly to motor..
No reverse switch ..let inverter do this if needed
If you have a hi/low switch gear on lathe then this can be used ( only with inverter off) …but allowing for the increased current rating.
( I wouldn’t use, it lock it in low and feed higher frequency for higher spindle speeds)

          Agreed.

You should be able to wire an emergency stop button to the inverter I/O connections.

Indeed. I would put E stop into the drive…
But the OP and his electrician might take the more obvious route of a DOL to protect / isolate the inverter and all downstream.
