Hi Chaps, I could do with a wee bit of advice (again!) I'm attempting to machine the rim of my "Wyvern" engine flywheel and using the face plate seemed the best way. bits of Perspex type stuff as stand offs but have a bit of a problem

as you can see the nearest I can get the carriage to the face plate will leave about 50mm of tool overhanging (this is with the topslide fully extended).
I think its the concertina type leadscrew cover causing the problem. The only thing I can think of is to make a long back to front boring tool (I suppose I mean a long RH tool) will this work or will it vibrate horribly?
